Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising Selected for 2026 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

Antica Productions is proud to announce that Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising has been named an Official Selection of the 2026 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. Antica co-produced the film alongside Makwa Creative.

Directed by Shane Belcourt and written and produced by Tanya Talaga, Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising tells the powerful, little-known story of a 1974 youth-led Anishinaabe land reclamation at Anicinabe Park in Kenora, Ontario. The occupation — which lasted more than a month — became a defining moment in the Red Power movement and continues to resonate today.

Through rare archival footage, personal letters, and contemporary interviews, the documentary revisits this pivotal moment in Indigenous activism and explores its lasting legacy across generations.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and has continued to build momentum on the festival circuit, bringing renewed attention to a largely overlooked chapter in Canadian history and the enduring strength of Indigenous resistance.

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, held annually in Missoula, Montana, is one of North America’s leading festivals dedicated to non-fiction storytelling. The selection marks another milestone for the film and its creative team.

Antica congratulates director Shane Belcourt, writer-producer Tanya Talaga, and all collaborators on this honour and looks forward to sharing Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising with audiences at Big Sky in 2026.
